RELEASE 17 BASELINE   /   FR1 PAIRED FDD   /   TERRESTRIAL + NTN

Read the scope first

A focused baseline.

Lunaris targets the 3GPP Release 17 baseline for FR1 paired FDD, with terrestrial and NTN deployment modes. The current integrated scope is one serving cell, one layer, initial downlink and uplink bandwidth parts, and normal cyclic prefix.

15 and 30 kHz subcarrier spacing are supported. Sampling profiles cover selected 5–50 MHz configurations at 15 kHz and 5–100 MHz at 30 kHz; each profile remains subject to valid NRB/BWP geometry, radio sampling constraints and campaign-specific qualification. These ranges are not RF or throughput certification.

IMPLEMENTED

A mechanism exists.

The code contains the mechanism within documented constraints. This alone is not live peer qualification.

COMPONENT CHECKED

A bounded building block.

Reference, waveform or lifecycle checks may cover a component beyond the current integrated live procedure.

CAMPAIGN DEMONSTRATED

A particular profile passed.

Live evidence applies to the named peer, hardware, channel and procedure. See the validation page for exact scope.

Radio interfaces & deterministic timing
  • UHD bidirectional timestamped receive and scheduled transmit, with X300/X310 and X410 sampling/clock profiles; operation at native radio rates, without host resampling. Selected live RF evidence is on X410.
  • ZMQ bidirectional FC32 REQ/REP links, receive-only PUB/SUB operation, and CF32 IQ replay/capture with metadata and bounded retention.
  • ZCU670 receive-only ADC DMA at 61.44 Msps, with optional FPGA CFO correction and board/digital-loopback tools. This is not a complete bidirectional FPGA modem.
  • Bounded scheduling queues, transmit composition, cancellation/replacement, timing-advance retiming and committed-window protection. Diagnostics cover overflows, sequence loss, gaps, timeouts and transmit outcomes.
Cell acquisition, tracking & physical-layer processing
  • PSS/SSS search and PCI/SSB acquisition; PBCH DM-RS and MIB decoding. An NTN Doppler prior can guide acquisition with a nominal search fallback.
  • Coarse/fine carrier-frequency correction, cyclic-prefix tracking, reference-signal timing, sampling-clock-slip handling and SSB quality observations.
  • FFT/IFFT and cyclic-prefix processing, carrier phase, Gold/low-PAPR/Zadoff–Chu sequences, channel estimation, equalisation and soft demapping. FFTW and optional AOCL acceleration paths.
  • CRC and scrambling; PBCH/PDCCH polar coding, UCI short-block/polar coding, UL/DL LDPC, rate matching/recovery, transport-block sizing, redundancy versions and HARQ soft combining.
  • Demapper components span QPSK through 1024-QAM. This does not establish live 1024-QAM interoperability or link performance.
Downlink control & data
  • Common and UE-specific CORESET/SearchSpace processing, Type0 table selection, monitoring candidates, CCE-to-REG mapping and control-channel DM-RS.
  • DCI 0_0/1_0 and bounded 0_1/1_1 configurations with Type 1 resource allocation.
  • One-layer PDSCH for broadcast, paging, random access and dedicated traffic; Mapping A/B, single-symbol DM-RS Type 1/2, delayed K0 scheduling and HARQ. CSI-RS exclusions cover rows 1/2/4.
  • Parameter applicability is checked per channel and configuration; mechanism names such as Type 1 have channel-specific meanings.
Uplink data, control & sounding
  • One-layer CP-OFDM PUSCH for RAR, DCI and configured-grant operation; DM-RS Type 1/2, UL-SCH, HARQ-ACK and CSI part 1. The integrated dedicated adapter has a narrower scope than the waveform generator.
  • Long-format PRACH 0–3, with configured roots, preambles, cyclic shifts, restricted/unrestricted sets and occasion/FDM/BWP placement. Short-format PRACH transmission is outside the current scope.
  • PUCCH formats 0–4 for scheduling requests, HARQ-ACK and CSI, including applicable hopping/OCC and UCI coding; formats 3/4 include pi/2-BPSK.
  • Single-port wideband CRI/RI/CQI using CSI-RS/CSI-IM; periodic, semi-persistent and aperiodic reporting, MAC/DCI activation, PUCCH and PUSCH CSI part 1.
  • Periodic, aperiodic and semi-persistent SRS for one ordinary set/resource/port, with activation, power and collision handling. Broader positioning/multi-port waveform components do not establish a live positioning service.
  • Absolute/relative timing advance, alignment timers, PRACH power ramping, P0/alpha/pathloss/TPC, PCMAX, calibrated IQ scaling and power-headroom reporting.
Access, repetitions, configured grants & MAC
  • Four-step random access: RAR/TA, backoff and power ramping, Msg3 buffering/retransmission, contention resolution and connected C-RNTI recovery.
  • Two-step random access: MsgA, MsgB success response, bundled RRC/success acknowledgement and fallback to Msg3 with retained payload/TBS. The current long-PRACH profile uses one SSB/time occasion, with MsgA PUSCH FDM 1/2/4/8 where geometry permits. Amarisoft two-step operation requires a documented, default-off SLIV compatibility option.
  • Msg3 repetition counts 1/2/3/4/7/8/12/16 in the supported long-PRACH, non-transform-precoded profile. Broad grant-decode coverage is distinct from live qualification of every count.
  • UL/DL repetition/aggregation across consecutive FDD slots with TB/HARQ/RV handling and combining; selected Release 16/17 TDRA extensions include uplink counts through 32. Higher-count peer profiles still have strict-UCI audit limitations.
  • PUCCH HARQ-ACK repetition 2/4/8 for formats 0–4; this does not include SR/CSI repetition or DM-RS bundling.
  • Configured grants Type 1 and Type 2 with DCI activation/deactivation/confirmation. The initial-UL-BWP scope is contiguous, one-layer CP-OFDM. Type A repK 1/2/4/8 has component checks; live qualification is profile-limited. Selected terrestrial Type 2 end-to-end evidence exists; GEO Type 2 data acceptance is not established.
  • MAC PDU/control-element processing, logical-channel prioritisation, BSR/SR/PHR, timing alignment, SRS activation and HARQ state/buffers. Dynamic UL pre-scheduling handles padding and arbitration. DRX codec/timer components do not imply a complete live DRX service.
RLC, PDCP, SDAP & bearer management
  • RLC TM/UM/AM with segmentation/reassembly, status reporting, receive windows, polling and retransmission behaviour.
  • PDCP SN/HFN/COUNT handling, reordering, duplicate/discard processing, signaling security and AM recovery/suspend-resume behaviour.
  • SDAP headers and headerless operation, QFI-to-DRB/default mapping, independent bearer queues and transactional DRB additions. Logical-channel priority participates in uplink scheduling.
  • Current scope does not include ROHC, full PDCP duplication/split bearers, live reflective QoS, general DRB/flow modification or deletion, or guaranteed GBR/5QI performance.
RRC, system information & connection lifecycle
  • MIB/SIB1/SIB19 acquisition and change/reacquisition; RRC Setup/Complete, SRB1/2, DRB additions, NAS transport, Security Mode and UE capability reporting.
  • Supported reconfiguration of CSI, SRS, HARQ and grants, with explicit rejection of unsupported combinations.
  • Serving-cell SSB radio-link monitoring with N310/N311/T310; SMTC, Layer 3 filtering and A1/A2 event hysteresis/time-to-trigger with protected measurement reports.
  • Non-eDRX paging using 5G-S-TMSI or full I-RNTI. Inactive/suspend/resume retains in-memory bearer/security context with triggers, timers and authenticated completion. Source-cell re-establishment and fallback are bounded.
  • No general handover/reselection, active BWP switching or restart-persistent suspended contexts is claimed.
NAS, authentication, security & real IP traffic
  • 5GMM/5GSM registration, identity and security procedures, recovery/deregistration, PDU-session establishment/release, supported modifications and timers. One PDU session, SSC mode 1 and a configured DNN; IPv4, IPv6 or IPv4v6 request/acceptance.
  • Software USIM with IMSI, null-scheme SUCI/GUTI, Milenage 5G-AKA, key derivation, externally supplied credentials and an SQN journal. Physical USIM and other authentication schemes are outside the current scope.
  • NEA2/NIA2 with explicit null-algorithm policy, replay/integrity and COUNT handling for protected signaling. Initial NAS requires NIA2. Current live data radio bearers use NEA0; this is not a claim of encrypted user-plane service. NEA1/NIA1 and NEA3/NIA3 are outside the current scope.
  • Linux TUN integration for IPv4; NAS IPv6 interface identifiers, link-local operation, router-advertisement/SLAAC global prefixes, neighbour discovery/MLD and namespace routing. Applications use host TCP, UDP and ICMP.
  • IP-filter QoS classification using QRI/QFI precedence, address/protocol/port/SPI/traffic-class/IPv6-flow-label fields; all six QoS-rule update operations and protected QoS-only session modification. Multiple DRBs have independent PDCP/RLC/queues. Ethernet, unstructured and multiple concurrent PDU sessions are outside scope.

NTN mechanisms

Assistance is part
of the control loop.

01 / ASSISTANCE

Decode the satellite context.

SIB19 epoch and validity, common timing advance and drift, cell-specific Koffset, kmac, position/velocity and orbital elements.

02 / GEOMETRY

Translate orbit into timing.

Fixed UE ECEF/WGS84 position, orbital conversion, rotating-ECEF gravity/J2 propagation reference checks, geometric/common/residual TA and scheduling offsets.

03 / FREQUENCY

Compensate the uplink.

Range-rate Doppler prediction on the paired uplink carrier, separate oscillator/CFO handling and phase-continuous compensation across bursts and ephemeris refreshes.

04 / LIFECYCLE

React to expired assistance.

T430 and alignment expiry, queued-uplink cancellation/gating, fresh-assistance recovery, SFN wrap and retiming of PRACH/PUSCH/PUCCH/SRS.

Long-RTT procedure timers and per-process HARQ mixed-feedback profiles support NTN experimentation. Delay/Doppler profiles, ZMQ impairments and capture/replay tools help construct controlled campaigns. Moving-orbit validation requires a consistent time-varying channel; current accepted RF results include terrestrial and static GEO-delay-emulated cases, not a live satellite service.

Boundaries & investment opportunities

A roadmap you can fund.

Current scope excludes TDD, FR2, carrier aggregation/dual connectivity, multi-layer MIMO, general mobility and complete live DRX/eDRX. PUSCH transform precoding, frequency hopping, PT-RS, CSI part 2/CG-UCI, Type B mapping and multi-slot transport blocks are also outside the integrated scope.

A partner programme can address a defined gap, widen a specific validated profile, integrate a radio or extend a campaign. Requirements, feasibility and acceptance criteria are agreed before any delivery commitment.
